Adding differential diagnosis

on Fri Nov 02, 2018 11:58 am
When I first started playing, the first patient I treated had symptoms that revealed Influenza and Allergic Rhinitis as possible diagnoses. The symptoms currently revealed could also have been Bacterial Sinusitis before further tests (such as nasal swab) ruled it out. Is this the sort of thing we'd be able to add by modding - ie if I added Bacterial Sinusitis as a disease along with its symptoms and tests, would it have automatically shown up on the patient's card as a possible diagnosis at that point, and would the tests have been offered?

I just tried adding a different disease, works just as you thought it would. Smile
As long as the discovered symptoms match with those you defined it shows up in the patient's card.

How did you go about adding another disease, Linus? I've added something to Diagnoses and added strings to Localisation, but not had any luck finding the disease in the game. Any hints at the basics would be appreciated.

I've had much more luck changing the properties of existing symptoms.

Sure Smile
A very simple new disease currently consist of at least 2 changes to the files.
You need to add the disease to "Diagnoses". BUT! There is one file for every department, so (in order to debug and test your modification) you need to know which deparment should be responsible.
For example: Influneza A is a disease of the emergency deparment. If you wanted to add Influenza B to the game. I would copy and paste the already existing Influenza A and just change the name. So from: "DIA_INF" to "DIA_INFB" and just the next line: "DIA_INF_DESCRIPTION" to  "DIA_INFB_DESCRIPTION". Because you already know how to change the properties I will skip this part.

Now you need to change the localization data of "StringTableEnDiagnoses". Just search for "DIA_INF" Copy and paste this entry and the description, change everything to your liking and you should be done Smile

So, in current state it is not possible to add symptoms, examinations, diagnoses and treatments without affecting original game files? In such case I suppose that each update of game overwrites my changes.
